European Pellet Industry Insights 2026: Lessons from Factory Visits and Technical Discussions

Introduction

In June 2026, our team spent nearly a month traveling across Europe, visiting pellet producers, industry partners, equipment manufacturers, and long-term customers.

The journey included Victam International in the Netherlands, the Pellet Forum in Poland, and factory visits across several European countries.

Through direct conversations with producers and technical discussions at production sites, we gained valuable insights into the current situation and future direction of the European pellet industry.

While the market continues to face challenges such as energy costs, raw material uncertainty, and increasing demands for efficiency, what impressed us most was the confidence and determination shown by many producers.

The industry is changing, but it continues to move forward.

European Pellet Producers Are Focusing More on Efficiency and Long-Term Value

One of the most noticeable trends during our visits was the changing mindset of pellet producers.

In the past, purchasing decisions were often strongly influenced by initial price.

However, more and more professional producers are now paying greater attention to the overall value a product can create throughout its operating life.

When discussing ring dies and other pellet mill wear parts, customers increasingly focus on questions such as:

  • How long can the die operate?
  • How stable is the production process?
  • How can downtime be reduced?
  • How can pellet quality be improved?

For professional pellet producers, the key question is no longer:

"How much does the ring die cost?"

The more important question is:

"How much production value can this ring die deliver?"

This shift shows that the pellet industry is becoming more mature, with greater emphasis on reliability, efficiency, and long-term performance.

Real Performance Speaks Louder Than Marketing

Long-term performance of Hayne ring die in pellet production

Long-term performance of a Hayne ring die in pellet production.

During this journey, one customer shared the operating results of a Hayne ring die that had already achieved approximately 2,500 operating hours.

What impressed us was not only the operating time itself, but the confidence behind these real production results.

In the pellet industry, every factory operates under different conditions. Raw materials, moisture levels, production settings, and equipment configurations all influence final performance.

Therefore, no single result can represent every application.

However, real production performance remains one of the most valuable references for evaluating a product.

A ring die's value is not measured only by its purchase price.

It is measured by:

  • Stable production
  • Reduced downtime
  • Consistent pellet quality
  • Long-term operating value

For professional producers, actual operating hours remain one of the most convincing indicators of performance.

They reflect not only manufacturing quality, but also the importance of correct design, material selection, heat treatment, and a deep understanding of customer applications.

For Hayne, every successful application represents more than a product achievement.

It is the result of close communication, technical understanding, and continuous improvement together with our customers.

Technical Knowledge Creates Real Production Value

Technical discussion on ring die design and pellet production improvement

Technical discussions with customers on ring die design optimization and pellet production improvement.

During our customer meetings, we noticed that technical discussions have become much deeper compared with previous years.

Topics frequently included:

  • Ring die compression ratio optimization
  • Hole geometry design
  • Raw material characteristics
  • Moisture management
  • Wear analysis
  • Production stability

Over the years, our role has gradually evolved from simply supplying wear parts to becoming a technical partner that supports customers with practical solutions based on real production experience.

After decades of working with pellet producers around the world, together with our previous experience in complete pellet production lines, we have learned that production problems rarely come from a single component.

A pellet mill does not operate independently.

Stable production and consistent pellet quality depend on the entire process — from raw material preparation and grinding to moisture control, conditioning, pelletizing, and cooling.

Understanding the complete production system allows us to look beyond a single ring die or spare part and provide solutions that are closer to each customer's actual production needs.

Real Production Experience Matters More Than Theory

European ring die cracking analysis during pellet plant visit

European ring die cracking analysis conducted during a pellet plant visit to identify root causes and improve die performance.

During one visit to an Eastern European pellet producer, we were invited to help investigate recurring ring die cracking issues.

The customer was introduced to us through a recommendation from another customer who had experienced our technical support.

Together with our technical team, we visited the factory and reviewed the complete production conditions, including:

  • Raw material characteristics
  • Moisture control
  • Raw material preparation
  • Existing ring die design
  • Pellet mill operating conditions

Instead of simply replacing the damaged ring die, we focused on understanding the root cause of the problem.

After detailed analysis and discussions with the customer, we suggested improvements related to raw material preparation, moisture management, and ring die design.

The customer appreciated this approach and decided to test the improved solution under actual production conditions.

For us, this was not simply a ring die replacement project.

It was a technical collaboration between the customer, engineers, and supplier — working together to understand the problem and find a better solution.

Long-Term Partnerships Are Built Through Trust

Technology continues to advance, but successful business relationships are still built on trust.

During customer visits, our goal has never been simply to sell another ring die.

Every visit starts with listening:

Listening to our customers' challenges, understanding their production conditions, and asking ourselves:

Can we really bring value to this customer?

Over many years of cooperation with pellet producers in different regions, we have accumulated practical experience from a wide range of production environments.

But experience only creates value when it helps customers improve.

This is why many of our customer relationships have continued for more than 10 years, and why many new customers come to us through recommendations from existing partners.

For us, this is one of the greatest forms of recognition we can receive.

A customer may choose a supplier because of a product, but they recommend a supplier because of the trust, support, and value they have experienced over time.

Looking Ahead: Challenges and Opportunities in the Pellet Industry

Hayne European pellet industry journey and customer visits

Hayne's European pellet industry journey and customer visits in 2026.

The European pellet industry is facing many challenges, but it is also full of opportunities.

During this journey, we saw producers continuing to invest, improve efficiency, optimize their production processes, and search for better solutions.

One of the biggest lessons we took from these visits was that the future of the pellet industry will not depend only on machines or materials.

It will also depend on knowledge sharing, technical cooperation, and the ability to continuously improve.

As a supplier, we often travel to introduce our products and solutions.

But every customer visit is also an opportunity for us to learn.

The production experience, feedback, and ideas shared by customers help us better understand real operating conditions and continue improving our products and technical solutions.

That exchange of knowledge is what allows both suppliers and producers to move forward together.

Conclusion

The pellet industry is built not only on technology.

It is built on people, partnerships, practical experience, and the continuous pursuit of better solutions.

Our journey through Europe reinforced something we have believed for many years: the best solutions are rarely created by suppliers or producers working alone. They are developed through communication, experience, testing, and continuous improvement together.

Through close cooperation with customers and partners around the world, Hayne will continue learning, improving, and supporting the development of the pellet industry.

Better performance comes from better understanding. And long-term cooperation begins with creating real value.
